Davos, 16 January 2023: During a live interview on the opening day the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, QIA CEO Mansoor Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud discussed the fund’s investment strategy for 2023 and opportunities for the portfolio.
Sitting with Anchor and Editor-at-Large for Bloomberg TV, Francine Lacqua, Mr. Al-Mahmoud highlighted the impact of the ongoing economic challenges and discussed investment opportunities for the year ahead. He said: “It’s a challenging time. Inflation is the main topic for the global economy [but] we see this as an opportunity to reposition our portfolio.”
The CEO noted that there are great opportunities to increase the fund’s exposure in the technology market, venture capital, and financial institutions. He added: “We are a long-term investor, and we take a long-term view”.
Discussing QIA’s interest in high-profile assets, Mr. Al-Mahmoud highlighted the fund’s diversification and asset allocation strategy. “We evaluate opportunities based on the fundamental aspects. Whether this is a trophy asset or not, we will deploy assets at the right valuation for our future generations,” he added.
He also highlighted the increasing importance of digitalization to economic growth and how investors can leverage the range of opportunities created as a result.
Other areas Mr. Al-Mahmoud discussed in the interview included QIA’s interest in investing in renewable energy and the sports sector.
